Tug of War

I’m pulling at both ends,
burning bridges one day at a time,
and God,

It’s late.

Every day I pray you take me sooner
and here I am alive,

Praying to wind and faded stars,
playing to empty rooms,
depositing everything,
a penny at a time

Too little
too late.

Genghis Knot

I fell asleep in my chair last night,
contemplating life. And when I woke,
I realized…

much of nothing; a revelation all its own.

There were years I worked myself
to sickly self-obsessed oblivion,

And showing nothing for today,
exponentially,

I grasp at life like childish hands
embracing trampled sand,

The grains dispersed so callously
they dissent to something

Rigidly familiar.

Away We Go

It’s no one’s game,
and we’re to blame.

We built an accident so carefully
we could scarcely sparse the
Folly unfolding

and,
God…

with all the weight attached – the trauma

the anticip

ation. Like that show you hate.

I hope they love it half as much
as I never deserved you.

I hope they read. I hope they’re read. I hope they understand
our mistakes were only just.

Nothing but. Nothing more.

Sol and Mani

Should the moon envy the sun, its sibling,
the affable, unfaltering;

Delicious growth and ineffable bounty

Ought the sun abhor the moon,
stealing its light and shadows,
Bringing night and pleasure,
welcome sleep and solitude…

rivals to the teeth, inseparable, unconditional,
Aware of their essential co-existence

Black Tie Event

Necklaces and whispers of emotion
tickle at the tingling edges of my mind.

I am haunted by your everything,
and I revel in your terror.

Cheating Life

It smells like cold;

The way the hairs inside your nose
Question icy flavors
Your brain takes time to contemplate;

Your knuckles, dry and splitting
Bleed into the Cracks
and your body eats itself
sitting catatonic underneath your layers.

It feels good to feel alive.

Cheating death, stealing time, and feeling guilty.

Sleeping in

I live in a shot glass emptied swiftly
under pressure, breathing smoke and
Wispy breath in winter.

I am blackened curtains
purposefully dismissing

Several sunsets
far too early to sustain.
